How to recognise Ukraine from the road

Drives on the right

Flat farmland to the horizon, birch and poplar along the roads. The alphabet carries a few letters that pin it down.

What to look for

1

Ukrainian letters

Ukrainian uses Cyrillic with і, ї and є, which set it apart from Russian.

2

Flat and open

Most of the country is flat, fertile farmland, with huge fields of wheat and sunflowers.

3

Lines of trees

Roads are often lined with rows of poplar, birch or other windbreak trees.

Try it for real
