How to recognise Denmark from the road

Drives on the right

Low, green and gently rolling, with red brick and thatch. Denmark shares letters with Norway, but none of its mountains.

What to look for

1

Red-bordered plates

Danish plates are white with a thin red border.

2

Danish letters

Look for æ, ø and å on signs, the same letters as Norway.

3

Flat to rolling

Unlike Norway, the land is low and gently rolling, with open fields and small woods.

4

Brick and thatch

Farmhouses are often red or yellow brick, and some still have thatched roofs.

Try it for real

Placivago can drop you in Denmark, or anywhere else across its 195 countries. Three real street-level places a day, no landmarks, no names. Free, and about six minutes.
