How to recognise Czech Republic from the road

Drives on the right

Rolling hills, red roofs and small villages around a church. The language is the fastest way to tell it from its neighbours.

What to look for

1

Czech letters

Look for ě, ř and ů, which none of the neighbouring languages use, alongside š and č.

2

One blue band

Plates are white with the blue EU band on the left.

3

Red roofs and hills

Villages of red-roofed houses sit among rolling farmland and woods.

Try it for real

Placivago can drop you in the Czech Republic, or anywhere else across its 195 countries. Three real street-level places a day, no landmarks, no names. Free, and about six minutes.
