How to recognise Norway from the road

Drives on the right

Mountains, fjords and wooden houses clinging to the slopes. Norway is dramatic, but the paint on the road is the most reliable clue.

What to look for

1

Yellow centre lines

Norwegian roads use yellow centre lines, unlike white-lined Sweden next door.

2

Norwegian letters

Look for æ, ø and å on signs.

3

Steep and close

Mountains and water are rarely far away, and roads often follow the shoreline or run through tunnels.

4

Wooden houses

Houses are mostly timber, painted white, red, yellow or grey.

Try it for real
