How to recognise Sweden from the road

Drives on the right

Forest, lakes and red wooden houses. Sweden looks a lot like its neighbours, so the road markings matter.

What to look for

1

White centre lines

Swedish centre lines are white. Norway and Finland use yellow, which makes this a useful split.

2

Swedish letters

Look for å, ä and ö on signs.

3

Falu red

Wooden houses and barns painted a deep red with white trim are everywhere in the countryside.

4

Endless forest

Spruce and pine forest with granite outcrops lines most rural roads.

Try it for real

Placivago can drop you in Sweden, or anywhere else across its 195 countries. Three real street-level places a day, no landmarks, no names. Free, and about six minutes.
