How to recognise Belgium from the road
Drives on the right
Brick terraces, cobbles and two languages. Belgium has one of the easiest number plates in Europe to spot.
What to look for
1
Red lettering
Belgian plates are white with the letters and numbers in red.
2
Dutch or French
Signs are in Dutch in the north and French in the south. Around Brussels you see both.
3
Brick and cobbles
Houses are mostly brick, often in long terraces, and older streets are cobbled.
4
Flat to rolling
The north is flat, while the south rises into the wooded hills of the Ardennes.
Try it for real
Placivago can drop you in Belgium, or anywhere else across its 195 countries. Three real street-level places a day, no landmarks, no names. Free, and about six minutes.
