How to recognise Canada from the road

Drives on the right

Canada can look a lot like its southern neighbour. Units and language are what separate them.

What to look for

1

Kilometres

Distances are in kilometres and speed limits in km/h, unlike the United States.

2

French on the signs

Signs are often bilingual. In Quebec they are in French, and stop signs read ARRÊT.

3

Yellow centre lines

As across North America, a yellow line separates opposing traffic.

4

Boreal forest

Away from the cities, spruce, pine and birch forest stretches for hundreds of kilometres.

Try it for real

Placivago can drop you in Canada, or anywhere else across its 195 countries. Three real street-level places a day, no landmarks, no names. Free, and about six minutes.
