How to recognise South Korea from the road

Drives on the right

Tall apartment blocks, wooded hills and neat rice fields. South Korea has its own alphabet, which settles it immediately.

What to look for

1

Hangul

Korean is written in Hangul, made of circles, lines and small boxes grouped into blocks.

2

Traffic on the right

Unlike Japan, South Korea drives on the right.

3

Yellow centre lines

Opposing traffic is divided by yellow lines.

4

Apartment towers

Clusters of tall, numbered apartment towers rise even in smaller towns.
